Summer is in full swing in Central Wisconsin! Fishing has been excellent for walleye, bluegill, crappie, catfish, whitebass and perch. If you’re looking to just get out and catch some fish or if you’re looking to learn some new techniques, give me a call or shoot me a message.
The walleye fishing on Lake Winnebago has been incredible this summer especially for the guys who love to troll. This has been one of the best year I can remember for a mud trolling bite on bago. Salmos, Flicker shads and Flicker minnows trolling around 2.1-2.3 mph over the mudflats has been extremely productive. Depending on the day, most fish have been in the top 10 feet of the water column. Natural colors like the blue/silver, black/gold, perch etc…have been working best. Guys have also been doing good on crawler harnesses.
On day where there has been some wind, fishing the reefs on the west side has been very productive with baits such as the Zman willowvibe or a Northland thumper jig with either a half crawler or a Zman 4″ jerkshadz. Look for areas that have larger rocks vs the smaller gravel.
Green Bay is finally starting to get active after the alewife intrusion that happens each spring. Oconto area perch and walleye fishing has been awesome in the weeds with a half crawler on some small jigs. Casting spoons, blade baits or shiver minnows on the shoal has also been working very well. Trolling the shoal and in the mud has started to show signs of good fishing as well. Down by Geanos pike and walleye are cruising around with a few muskie. Jigging when there is wind or early mornings on the reef or trolling the edge towards shore will usually put a few fish in the boat.
Down on the lower bay near College reef, Volks, Vincent and off Bayshore, guys have been doing fairly well trolling flicker minnows in bright colors along the edges and on tops of the reefs.
Bluegill and crappie fishing has been fantastic over in Waushara and Waupaca counties on the small lakes. Early morning hours, look for tall weeds and cast small tubes or crappie baits into the weeds without any bobbers and work them back. As the day progresses look over the deeper basins for the large schools and cast slip bobbers with leeches or pieces of crawlers. Size has been great and numbers have been plenty!
Enjoy the 4th of July week and if you want to get out, let me know and we will make it happen!
Cheers!
