Midwest Outdoors TV is introducing a new television show for 2021 called Ice Breakers. We were supposed to film an episode last week and with the poor ice conditions around home we had to call an audible. To the north we went. Destination: Minocqua, WI at Indian Shores RV and Campground Resort on beautiful Lake Tomahawk.
The accommodations are absolutely amazing with a ton of renovations throughout the resort including the bar and restaurant area. The host, Jeff Katzer was extremely friendly and very welcoming. Food was outstanding and can truthfully say the perch was some of the best I have ever had. I also had their BBQ ribs and were done to perfection.
The resorts has a lot to offer all year long. Camping and fully furnished cabins, swimming pool, boat and waverunner rentals, snowmobile rentals coming in 2021, fishing guide and places to hold large group outings making it the perfect spot to spend your next getaway.
We were able to film an episode that will highlight all the pros and cons of Ice fishing electronics from all brands. We discussed everything from cameras, flashers, lcd units, livescope, 360, active target and gps units. It is a tell all segment showing all the different options that should help determine what best suits your needs.
The ice conditions on area lakes was outstanding with an average of 20-24″ with the top inch or two turning to slush late Sunday afternoon with the warm temps and heavy winds. I would assume people will be able to fish at least 2 weeks up there unless a bunch of rain shows up. Fishing has been pretty tough with the extremely cold water temps. we were able to find some active fish around some deeper structure and deep weeds in the 16′ area. To our surprise, we landed on some giant smallies on some cribs while targeting crappies. They put up a great fight and were releases quickly making sure not to harm them.
Look for the episode next fall on Midwest Outdoors TV. Sunday was a bitter sweet day as all the ice gear was cleaned and put away for the season. I am waiting for the new Lund to show up and until then will be getting the River boat ready for some early season walleye trips on the rivers. The Fox River in DePere is extremely busy right now and the wolf has also been seeing large numbers of anglers hitting the water. Walleyes are biting well in both spots.
Have a great week everyone and stay tuned for some awesome spring fishing!
