I guide on the entire Winnebago chain, the majority of Northeastern and central to East central Wisconsin lakes.  There are also a few lakes around Crivitz, Minocqua, and Eagle River area as well.  If there is a lake you would like to fish just let me know, I'll see what I can do!

Fishing Report For February 28, 2008

Are You Ready To Battle?
Battle on Bago is Saturday!!!!  Check Out the Site at www.battleonbago.com!

Fishing out on the Winnebago system has been pretty good this past week if you can get out to where you want to fish.  Poygan has been very hard to get around on with all the snow and slush on the ice.  Even with snowmobiles, travel is very difficult!  Winnebago is a little better and with a good set of tires and a bigger 4 wheel drive truck you should be ok as long as you dont hit any slush holes or big drifts!

There are some walleyes being picked up with a little more consistency on the entire system.  It takes a lot of moving around to find the active schools of walleyes but once you find some fish, the schools have been tight and active.  Jigging larger spoons up high is what has been working.  If you set some tip-ups out, set them high as well.  Fish on the bottom are less likely to bite on anything you want to give them.

Whitebass and perch continue to be very aggressive and fairly easy to catch.  The hard part again is finding the fish.  Keep moving around until you find them and then sit tight until you have enough fish in the bucket!  Moving around, drilling holes or any other noise will make catching a lot harder.  Medium spoon, silver or gold in color and aggressive jigging motions will work once you find them.

I took a break one day and did some bluegill fishing over in Waushara county and boy oh boy are the conditions bad out there.  We had almost 1 foot of slush under 2 feet of snow.  Even with snowmobiles it is almost impossible to get around.  The benefits are well worth the effort though.  WE had over a hundred fish in less than 2 hours.  Fishing weed lines in about 13-16 feet of water.  The afternoons are way better for larger fish.  From 3:00 - 4:30, every fish was from 7.5"  - 8.5".  Everything was caught on diamond jigs tipped with a bunch of spikes.  I will be back after the gills this week while filming some shows for Midwest outdoors.

Good Luck and I will see you all at the Batlle!
